The GCA met with MPs at the Houses of Parliament this week, to ask them to pledge to its #Cardmitment campaign and support a reliable and affordable postal service.
GCA CEO Amanda Fergusson and Adriana Lovesy were joined by others including vice president Karen Wilson of Paper Salad, and David Falkner of Cardology.
The GCA contingent met with MPs from across the country, while others got in touch in order to be connected with a greeting card company in their area, while yet more offered support; Michael Gove, for instance, whose private secretary attended on his behalf.
The MPs were asked to sign a giant card, designed by Sarah Jackson of Stormy Knight and produced by Sherwood Press, with these five pledges:
- Agreeing to lead the way by sending Christmas cards this year
- Visiting an Independent card retailer and/or publisher and/or designer in their constituency in the run-up to Christmas to remind people it still only costs 75p to send a card by post
- Help support the GCA’s Caring at Christmas campaign , where scores of members will be visiting care homes to help residents write and send cards
- To help make sure that 2nd class postal rate stays pegged to inflation
- Offer support to local posties by protecting the Royal Mail’s obligation to deliver reliably everywhere in the UK
Amanda Fergusson told Greetings Today: “It was great to get such an enthusiastic response from MPs across the House, such as Mark Menzies, Elliot Coburn, Michael Gove and David Linden among others, to our #Cardmitment messages. It was good to have the opportunity to highlight the world-leading small businesses that make up the UK greeting card industry and the importance of cards to our High Streets across the country. Everyone we spoke to were either writing, or had written their Christmas cards and were keen to support our industry and recognised the importance of a national reliable and affordable royal mail postal service.’’
