When golfing enthusiast Laurie Skuodas spotted his own record-breaking achievement immortalised on one of Draw UK’s cards he felt as if he had scored a hole in one!
Draw UK is known for its lovable characters in colourful hand-drawn cartoons on greeting cards, textiles, stationery, and gifts.
‘Life Without Golf Would be Unbearable’ features Draw UK’s fun and furry bear, with his golf clubs, enjoying his round. Because each of Draw UK’s greetings cards carries a small information text on its rear, often with a fun fact about the activity or character used to bring the image to life.
Golfer Laurie (pictured) explained: “I love golf and I love a challenge; after completing my quest to climb every Munro in Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales I sought out my next adventure. I decided to complete every hole across each of Scotland’s 558 golf courses. It took me 10 years to visit and play each course and I finally completed my challenge at Maverston Golf Course near Elgin in 2016.”
Laurie’s story features as the text on one of the cards in Draw UK’s popular Compost Heap range. In fact, the keen golfer is no stranger to a challenge; as a keen mountaineer and guide he has also climbed and skied extensively in the European alps as well as the Andes, Rockies and Himalayas.
The golfing bear is one of a series of hand-drawn characters from Draw UK. The company’s co-founder Will Digby explained: “At the heart of our work is a desire to bring a little joy and raise a smile, injecting a dash of humour into people’s day. All of our designs are devised and drawn by our talented team of in-house artists. Our popular greeting cards not only feature vividly rendered characters with amusing sayings and jokes, they also feature a short piece of information on the reverse of each card. Laurie Skuodas’ golfing feat is undoubtedly impressive and, we felt, notable enough to feature in the Draw UK range.”
