The Eco-friendly Card Co. is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its FSC chain-of-custody certification this autumn, with celebrations beginning at the NEC Autumn Fair
The publisher, then known as Glebe Cottage, became the first direct-to-independent-retail greetings card publisher in the UK to gain FSC certification in 2006.
Having already switched to 100% recycled envelopes in the mid-1990s, the company was looking for meaningful and verifiable ways to demonstrate the environmental credentials of its products.
Obtaining our own FSC Chain of Custody certification back in 2006 was incredibly exciting and opened up many opportunities for us. At the time, it was difficult to find recycled-content board. By becoming FSC-certified, we could commission our own FSC-certified board for greeting cards.

The company now uses FSC Recycled board for all its cards, alongside other environmental initiatives including alcohol-free printing, recycled envelope paper, green energy and UK-only manufacturing.

The Eco-friendly Card Co. will mark the anniversary at Autumn Fair in Hall 8, stand F37, where it will launch a new collection of 30 Wildlife Trusts greeting cards. Printed on textured FSC Recycled board, the range celebrates British wildlife, with each design featuring informative text about the species depicted.
The publisher will also be giving away 20 FSC-certified bug hotels, supplied by The Nestbox Company, with five available to the first customer placing an order on each day of the four-day show. Visitors can also find out more about FSC and responsible forestry at the stand.
