Driftwood Designs folding heart cards

New from Driftwood Designs are these cheerful folding heart cards that will share the love at any time

Beautifully illustrated by artist Lizzie Spikes, these cards will make a very special Valentine’s gesture. They are also perfect for any occasion when you want to show someone you care.

Inspired by Victorian puzzle cards, the beauty starts with the brightly coloured envelope. When the recipient opens it, the card pops out in a heart shape with one of two designs. It then folds out into four joined hearts, each panel bearing one of Lizzie’s wonderful pieces of art in bold colours, front and back, with a special section for your message.

There are two versions of the cards available. One has a flower design on the front, surrounded by hearts, with the other panels sporting floral motifs, other than one with a pair of doves on the wing. The other is fronted by a red admiral-inspired butterfly, with other sections bearing designs of hearts and flowers, and striking, stylised animal pairs.

Victorian puzzle cards – or puzzle purses – have their origins in the eighth century in Japan, but they became particularly popular in the 1800s. A form of romantic token or love letter, the carefully-folded cards often hid private outpourings of affection, poems or even locks of hair.

All products in the Driftwood Designs ranges incorporate the work of Welsh artist and illustrator Lizzie Spikes, whose passion is creating colourful illustrations that can be translated to homewares, cards, prints and more.
