The Greeting Card Association (GCA) has appointed Cardology founder and GCA Council Member David Falkner as its new Chief Executive Officer

Falkner will officially join the GCA on 1st December, working alongside current CEO Amanda Fergusson throughout the month to ensure a smooth handover, before taking on the CEO role in his own right from 1st January 2027.

He was selected following a recruitment process involving a number of candidates, with the GCA highlighting his experience of running a publishing business, previous corporate career and understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing smaller businesses.

GCA President Karen Wilson said Falkner’s combination of industry knowledge, commercial experience and fresh thinking would help take the association forward.

GCA Vice President Mark Callaby added that Falkner’s recent work on postal reform had demonstrated “just how deeply he cares about our community”.

Fergusson said: “David’s broad business experience, coupled with his work as a GCA Council Member, mean he is ideally placed to lead the GCA into the next chapter. He also brings a real passion and understanding for our industry and the power of greeting cards.”

I genuinely believe we’re on the cusp of a real moment for cards: they have a unique ability to connect us to one another, and that feels more valuable than ever right now.

Falkner said he was “delighted” to be taking on the role and to have the opportunity to build on the platform created by Fergusson.

“The greeting card community has given me an enormous amount over the years, and I’m excited to give something back while helping the whole category grow and thrive,” he said.

Falkner will step back from the day-to-day commercial operation of Cardology from 1st December, with the family business continuing under Kripa and Dipa Shah.
