The GCA is urging greetings industry members to contact Ofcom as it reviews the charge for Second Class post
The deadline for submissions is December 5.
The GCA’s concern is that Second Class is how most people send cards. If the cost keeps going up, many people will simply send fewer cards, or stop sending them at all.
The GCA has sent a detailed letter to Ofcom setting out its concerns and asking it to:
- Keep meaningful protections on the price of Second Class post
- Base any changes on up-to-date financial evidence
- Make sure ‘affordability’ is tested in a clear, transparent way
- Design any discounts so they work for both people who send cards and those who receive them
- Recognise greeting cards as a special kind of ‘social post’ with real social value.
To back up its input, the GCA is encouraging greeting industry members to send in their own submissions. To make it easy, there is a template letter that can be downloaded, where you can add your company name and include examples about customers cutting back on card purchases due to postage costs.
