Duran Duran is the latest iconic British band to be celebrated by Royal Mail, with a new collection of special stamps highlighting the group’s influential music, striking visual identity and remarkable career
The new issue features eight stamps showcasing album artwork from across the band’s career, including Duran Duran, Rio, Seven and the Ragged Tiger, Notorious, Duran Duran (The Wedding Album), Astronaut, Paper Gods and Future Past.
A further four stamps are presented in a miniature sheet celebrating Duran Duran’s live performances. Inspired by tour posters from the band’s global career, the designs feature the Careless Memories Tour, Astronaut Tour, Sing Blue Silver Tour and Invisible Tour.
The collection coincides with the 45th anniversary of Duran Duran’s debut album and breakthrough single Planet Earth. Royal Mail worked closely with the band on the issue, from selecting the album artwork and imagery through to the overall design.
Formed in Birmingham in 1978, Duran Duran became one of the defining bands of the New Romantic movement, combining innovative pop music with pioneering music videos, fashion and distinctive visual design. The band has sold more than 100 million records worldwide and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022.
Duran Duran becomes the ninth music band to receive a dedicated Royal Mail stamp issue, following The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Queen, The Rolling Stones, Iron Maiden, Spice Girls, The Who and AC/DC.
The stamps and a range of collectible products are available to pre-order from Royal Mail, with the full collection going on general sale from 17th September.
